Hurley made headlines when he posted the covertly shot video in which Kanye gets down on one knee to propose to Kim on the field of San Francisco’s AT&T Park. The footage attracted millions of views but incurred the wrath of the Hollywood power couple, who headed straight for their lawyer.
In legal documents filed Thursday, the couple accuse Hurley — who recently unloaded his share of YouTube for $1.65 million — of posting the vid on his new video-sharing site, MixBit, as a way of drawing users to that venture. West and Kardashian also allege that Hurley signed a confidentiality agreement, but then “proceeded to try to turn the event into one starring himself, broadcasting the images he knew were the exclusive property rights of someone else.”
As proof, the documents include a picture taken of Hurley, in which he holds up the confidentiality agreement. Furthermore, the suit alleges that Kimye had already promised the video of their proposal to MC Cable Television (a subsidiary of Bunim/Murray, the company that produces Keeping Up With the Kardashians).
The couple is seeking an unspecified sum in damages.
